DefamationWise is designed so that very little about you reaches it at all. This page says exactly what is collected, why, and how to have it removed. The data controller is Codable Labs Ltd, Ireland.
The tools
Every tool runs in your browser. The dates and answers you type are never sent to this site’s servers, and no tool asks for the statement itself. The route finder keeps your answers in your browser’s session storage until you close the tab. If you choose to copy a share link, your inputs are encoded in the part of the address after the # sign, which browsers do not send to any server and which analytics never records. Nothing is sent to any court.
The side switch
Your choice of “I’ve been defamed” or “I’ve been accused” is kept in your browser’s local storage only. It is never put in a link, so sharing a page does not reveal which side you are on, and it is never sent to this site.
Analytics
The site uses Plausible, a cookieless analytics service, to count page views and a small set of events such as “enquiry sent”. No personal data, no tool inputs and no URL fragments are recorded, and there are no custom events on the tools beyond a count. No consent banner is needed because no cookies are set and no identifier is stored on your device.
The enquiry form
If you ask to be contacted by a solicitor, the form collects which side you are on, your name, email address, what your enquiry is about, where it stands, how you want to be contacted, and a phone number only if you give one. With your explicit consent these details are stored securely and passed to a solicitor firm regulated by the Law Society of Ireland, which contacts you directly. Nothing about the statement or the case beyond those fields is collected. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
No solicitor pays DefamationWise for introductions, which section 62 of the Solicitors Act 1954 forbids. If a firm sponsors this site, it pays a fixed fee that does not vary with enquiries, and it is named on the disclosure page.
Retention and your rights
Enquiries are kept for twelve months and then deleted. You can ask for your enquiry to be deleted sooner, for a copy of what is held, or for a correction, by writing to privacy@defamationwise.ie. You can complain to the Data Protection Commission if you are unhappy with how your data has been handled.
Hosting
The site is served from Cloudflare’s network. Enquiries are stored in a database hosted by Supabase in the EU and forwarded by email through Resend. These providers process data on Codable Labs Ltd’s instructions only.
