How this site earns

Last updated 2026-10-09.

DefamationWise is free to use and sells nothing. This page says plainly where its income comes from, so you can weigh what you read.

Solicitor sponsorship, not referral fees

In Ireland a solicitor may not pay for the introduction of clients (Solicitors Act 1954, section 62). DefamationWise therefore takes no referral fee and no payment that varies with the number of enquiries.

No firm currently sponsors this site. Enquiries made through the form are passed, with your consent, to a solicitor firm regulated by the Law Society of Ireland, and no payment changes hands for them. When a sponsoring firm is signed, it will be named here and in the consent text on the form, after its compliance partner has confirmed the fixed-fee structure in writing.

What never changes

  • No payment affects what the guides say. Content is written from the official sources named on each page.
  • The free routes come first everywhere: the route finder lists them before any solicitor step, and a solicitor prompt appears under a tool result only where the result itself signals complexity.
  • The enquiry form never appears on the threats, harassment or intimate-image guides.
  • The awards register is editorial, not partner copy. No solicitor’s copy on this site states a success rate, quotes a damages figure as an inducement, or uses the phrase the advertising rules ban.
  • The site sells no letters, no documents and no “we’ll get it removed” service, and carries no reputation-management advertising.

Other income

DefamationWise may in future carry a fixed sponsorship from a mediation or dispute-resolution provider, and a labelled sponsorship from a business-insurance broker on the guides for shops and employers only. Both will be listed here when they exist. There is no display advertising.
